Your article really captures the Savage Journey to the heart of the NAPE dream: little hot dogs to the Wells Fargo stagecoach to the XTO fake fireplace. Somehow it all fits together into the grand parade. I think the year of the vulture says it all, and somehow the mood at NAPE is upbeat despite apocalyptic economic forecasts because seeing maps, cross sections and ideas is immensely uplifting to geoscientists. Creative stimulation is quite a tonic to feel good about something other than price.
